On Display at The St James Cathedral in Chicago
Marvin Messing Art Exhibit "Art of the Cross"
February 26th - April 12th
This set of charcoal drawings depict the classic devotional service commemorating the 14 events in Christ’s journey from Pilate’s judgement hall to Golgotha on the day of his crucifixion.
Marvin Messing portrayed three further views of the stations, expanding his series to 17 drawings.
Without color, Messing hoped the scenes would evoke deeper emotion as they reflect the gravity of the story.
Messing did not sign the drawings
so the viewer focuses on the story
and not the artist.
The actual works are large: 27” x 32”
Script has been added for clarity; it is not on the original drawings.
